The 5th Day of 1st Intensive Training Program 02 Jan 2016 | in Intensive Training Program

Cheonan, Korea - Participants and lecturers were continuing their 1st Intensive Training Program for Asian University Sport Leaders. On Jan. 2nd 2016, Dr. Woong Yong HA gave a lecture on History and Development of Asia Collegiate Sport and Administration. He introduced AUSF organization structure and its flagship events, including men's basketball, taekwondo and table tennis. The strategic plan AUSF was to reach the unreached through sub-regions. To fulfill that mission, AUSF started the cooperate with AUFC (Asian University Sports Council) and established sub committees. There were still challenges for AUSF, such as limited resources, diversities within Asia in languages, culture, customs and geographic distance between regions, and packed sports calendar for Universiade, WUC, AUG and AUC etc.

Dr. Seung-yup LIM from Dankook University lectured on Ethnics in Sport Management. In the first part, he introduced the situation of unethical practices in Korean sports, which were corruption referee, faction, gambling, physical violence, sexual harassment matching fixing and doping. And the reasons caused those unethical practices were overemphasis on winning, seeking financial rewards and capitalist nature toward profit making. In the second half of his speech, Dr. LIM explained the difference between traditional sport management and ethical sport management, i.e. making profits vs. social responsibility. Professor Jae-Kyung LEE from Konkunk University Law School gave his lecture followed Dr. LIM in the afternoon. His topic is Judgment Dispute in Sports and its Handling on the afternoon. Since sport influence increased a lot in recent years, sports dispute increased too. Actually, a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) placed under the International Council of Arbitration for sport (ICAS) was created in 1984 to settle these disputes.

It was the most intensive day since the program started in Dec.29th, 2015. However, the participants were happy with the arrangement, through which they could learn a lot and got the chance to communicate and share opinions with people from foreign countries and regions.
