Shenyang- After two days of intense pool competition, today saw the semi-finals and finals of the inaugural edition of the Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship.
Team event: 8 exciting games were staged for the Semifinals and Finals
For Women’s competition, Tianjin University of Economics and Finance (TUEF) and Beijing Normal University (BNU) both beat their rivals and proceeded to the final. And TUFE won the China Derby with excellent cooperation, given that BNU boast a higher average height.
In the men’s competition, the highlight lied in the final game, which was between Mongolia-Altius Institute of Physical Education 1(MAI) and Northeastern University (NEU), as it is the second time for the two teams to compete in this court. MAI had more confidence since it had defeated NEU, it was NEU’s time to redeem themselves in front of the home crowd. Both teams fought hard for every single ball possession, MAI was hot along the arc with several 3-pointers made. It was again like the group game, NEU started trailing the game by 4 points, a time-out was called by the host, after 30 seconds of rest, LIU Zhixuan of NEU started to become the hero again, he used his experience to draw many fouls, as a result, many free throws were given to NEU to allow them to chase up the lead. Due to many fouls committed by MAI, the defence of the Mongolian team started to become fragile, NEU took this chance to score as many points as possible to lead the game. At the end, NEU was able to remain the lead, and become the 1st Men’s champion of 1st Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship in front of home fans.
Individual Games: a magnificent feast for eyes
In between the 3rd/4th and championship game, there was individual contest, namely Men’s slam dunk and Women’s shoot out contest. All the participants showed their special excellent skills, feasted the audience with the charms of basketball and triggered the excitement inside the court. Finally, it was Ochirkhuu Khuderbat, No.13 from Mon-Altius Institute of Physical Education2 (MGL) who won the favor of 3 judges and got No.1 among all the boys. Though failed to show his best shot, Torabi Mohammad also No.13 from Science University of Iran offered a personal slum show after the contest, boosting the biggest screams and applauses from the audience. Ms. Liu Yusen from the Tianjin University of Economics and Finance (CHN) scored the highest in the 3-point throw.
