1st AUCC: First Half 20 Oct 2015 | in Chess

Beijing - after 2-day competition, 5 rounds were played. There were three events in this championship: Men’s Individual Event, Women’s Individual Event and Team Event. The championship was a 9-round Swiss system tournament.Time control was 60 minutes per side with 30 seconds increment per move.

GM Yu Ruiyuan from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics emerged as the leader with 4.5 points after 5 rounds in Men’s Individual Event.

After winning all his games in the first 3 rounds, GM Yu Ruiyuan made a fighting draw against his teammate, the top player GM Ma Qun in round 4. In round 5, Yu Ruiyuan scored a full point against his another teammate IM Lou Yiping.

There were three players half point behind leader: GM Ma Qun from China and GM Susanto Megaranto and IM Muhammad Lutfi Ali, both from Indonesia.

GM Susanto Megaranto was a bit lucky in round 3 and 4. In the game with IM Lou Yiping, he managed to get a laborious draw in a tough end game with R vs. R + 2 pawns. In round 4 with GM Gao Rui, Megaranto found himself in a losing position in the middle game, but GM Gao Rui made a blunder and lose the game.

In Women’s group, things got very easy for the top contender WGM Ni Shiqun from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, as she made a perfect score in the first 5 rounds.

Another 2 players from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Qiu Mengjie and Nie Xin, were sharing the 2nd and 3rd positions in the ranking table with 4 points out of 5 rounds. WGM Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, who lost to Ni Shiqun in round 5, was half point behind Qiu Mengjie and Nie Xin.
