The Opening of 1st Asian University Chess Championship 19 Oct 2015 | in Chess

Beijing- the 1stAsian University Chess Championship was kicking off in Beijing, the capital city of China. This was the inaugural edition of this event, which was hosted by Asian University Sports Federation and co-organized by Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES). The championship would last from 19th to 23rd, October in CUPES. More than 50 students from 9 Asian countries and regions including Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and the host country China would compete in this event. In conjunction with this event, the Chess Workshop was hosted, which was the first training project of AUSF Education and Development Center since its establishment in 2014.

Head of Delegation Meeting

The Head of Delegation meeting was held at 20:00 on the evening of 18th Oct., with the attendance of AUSF Assessor Preecha PRAYOONPAT, Technical Delegate Godigamuwage Luxman WIJESURIYA, Vice President of CUPES XIE Jun, the Chief Referee WANG Junnan and head of each participating team.

During the meeting, the local Organizing Committee (LOC) introduced the whole program of the championship and they considerately arranged three cultural events for the participants to experience Chinese Kongfu, the Chinese calligraphy and visit of Great Wall. After that, the Chief Referee took the floor and explained the technical issues, including the competition rules, the nomination of alternate members for the appeal committee who were Mr. DU Fuhua (CHINA) and Mr. Bong Bunawa (INDONESIA).

Opening Ceremony

8:30, on the morning of 19th October, a grand opening of the 1st Asian University Chess Championship started in the main building of Capital University Of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES).

 

The ceremony started with a 5-minute video clip introducing AUSF, FUSC, CUPES and the championship and also giving the background information of the establishment of AUSF Education and Development Center. AUSF Vice Secretary General and FUSC Vice President XUE Yanqing, Assessor Preecha PRAYOONPAT, Assessor JARGALSAKHAN Dorjsuren, Technical Delegate Godigamuwage Luxman WIJESURIYA attended the ceremony, with CUPES leaders including Chairman of University Council ZHAO Wun, President ZHONG Bingshu and Vice President XIE Jun.

After a warm welcome of all the delegations, Mr. ZHONG Bingshu, President of CUPES made a welcome speech. He thanked AUSF to entrust the championship to CUPES and welcomed all the participants. He mentioned that this championship was the first event after the establishment of AUSF Education and Development Center located in CUPES. And the CUPES would do their best to support the 1st Asian University Chess Championship.

On behalf of AUSF, Mr. Preecha PRAYOONPAT made a speech to congratulate FUSC and CUPES for the grand opening of the championship as well as the chess workshop held during the same period. He wished all the players having the best performance during this event. In the following, Mr. XUE Yanqing announced the opening of the championship. The flag of AUSF slowly rose up in its anthem, solemnly declaring the start of this silent but fierce completion. The ceremony ended with the oaths from player representative and referee representative.

Final Results of DAY ONE

The first round started right after the ceremony at 9:15 am.
