1st Asian University Chess Championship Concluded 24 Oct 2015 | in Chess

Beijing - 1st Asian University Chess Championship came to the end after 9-round competition in 23th October.

The closing ceremony is held in the auditorium in the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports(CUPES) in Beijing, China. AUSF Assessor Preecha PRAYOONPAT, Assessor JARGALSAKHAN Dorjsuren, Technical Delegate Godigamuwage Luxman WIJESURIYA, Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) Vice President Zhang Yanjun and guests from Chinese Chess Association attended the ceremony, with CUPES leaders including Chairman of University Council ZHAO Wen, President ZHONG Bingshu and Vice President XIE Jun.

The ceremony started with a 10-minute documentary film recording the memorable moments including the opening ceremony, the games, the cultural programs and the hard work of the officials, arbiters, journalists, volunteers and staff. Then Mr. Luxman announced the 8 special awards. The team of Japan got the Best Dare to Fight Award. The Best Newcomer Award went to Koswate. K.R.C.T. from Sri Lanka and Gao Rui from China. In addtion, Mr. Luxman awarded the outstanding volunteers for their contribution to this event.

In the following, Chief Referee Wang Jun'nan announced the medal winners. WGM Ni Shiqun from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (China) won the gold medal of Women's Individual Event with an impressive score of 8.5/9 and the first price of Men's Individual Event went to GM Susanto Megaranto from Gunadarma University (Indonesia). Shanghai University of Finance and Economics(China), Gunadarma University(Indonesia) and National University of Mongolia(Mongolia) ranked top three of all the participating teams.

In his speech, Mr. ZHONG Bingshu congratulated the outstanding performances of each chess player and extended sincere thanks to all the participants. On behalf of AUSF, Mr. Preecha thanked FUSC and CUPES for their hospitality and the wonderful organization and congratulated on the great achievements of all the athletes in the last 5 days. He mentioned that during the event, several participating countries showed the intention to host the 2nd and 3rd edition of AUCC. With all the efforts, chess will become a flagship event of AUSF. After the speech, Mr. Preecha presented two crystal cups to CUPES on behalf of AUSF. One for 1st Asian University Chess Championship, the other for the chess workshop also held in CUPES during the same period. Mr. ZHONG Bingshu presented a giant horse-piece to Mr. ZHANG Yanjun, to express thanks for FUSC's support.

Mr. Luxman also made a speech to thank CUPES for the wonderful organization. After the AUSF flag slowly came down in its solemn anthem, the 1st Asian University Chess Championship concluded successfully.
