2nd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship: Day 3 22 Jul 2016 | in 3 on 3 Basketball

Macau, China – on 22nd July, the competition of 2nd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship came into the 3rd day, the most exciting day besides finals, because today it was witnessed who became the best dunker and shooter of 2nd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship.

Both contests were split into two rounds, the qualification round and the final round. For men’s dunk contest, there were 5 participants from Macao, Hong Kong, China, Iran and Korea. Each of them had 3 chances to dunk, once a successful dunk was made, the judges will give their scores, and each participant had to make 3 dunks, the scores of these three would be accumulated to total points which would determine the ranking. After a competitive round, Iran, China and Hong Kong proceeded to the final round. In the final round, Hong Kong seemed to be lack in creativity, simple dunk with power on definitely could not please the judges, both China and Iran had performed their dunks in the final round, and the scores were really close, at the end Iran won the Men’s Dunk Contest with 3 points higher than China, Hong Kong won the 2nd Runner-up.

As for Women’s Shootout Contest, there were 9 participants from Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and Macau. During qualification round, each participant had to shoot 10 balls from the top of the key, each ball worth 1 point, 5 of them who had highest scores within less amount of time would proceed to the final round. After a suffocating final round, both Thailand and China had 9 points, but Thailand used 2.6 seconds less than China to score 9 points. Therefore, based on the regulation, Thailand won, China became the 1st Runner-up and Chinese Taipei got the 2nd Runner-up.

The afternoon session was the last day of pool games, the teams that had 2 losses or more basically had no chances to proceed to semi-finals. Therefore, the highlights of today’s game occurred at two men’s game, Macao against Korea from Pool A and Hong Kong against Iran from Pool B. Both Korea and Macao had 1 loss in their previous game along with top contender China B who had finished all their games in group stage. Therefore, the winner of this game would be 1 of the top 2 teams from Pool A that would proceed to the semi-finals. While, Hong Kong and Iran both had no losses, and other teams within their group all had at least 2 losses. Therefore, the winner of this game would determine who would take the No. 1 seat to play the semi-final. All the audiences could not move their eyes away from the court, and everyone was holding their breath until each successful shot. After a very competitive 10 minutes, Macao beat Korea to take the first seed in Pool A, China B became the second, and Iran beat Hong Kong to lead Pool B.

While, for women’s group, both China A and B, Thailand A and B proceeded to semi-finals. Tomorrow will be the last day of 2nd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship. The champion and runner-ups of each tournament will be revealed.
