Taebaek, Korea - at 18:30 of Aug. 31st ,the Opening Ceremony of 3rd Asian University Football Championship started in Taebaek Gymnasium with attendance of representatives from AUSF, AUFF, local authorities and all the participating teams. All the teams marched into the Stadium in the solemn tone of AUSF Anthem. A traditional drum performance was performed to the audiences and warmed up the air instantly right after the marching.
Mr. Kim Yeon-sik, Mayor of Taekbaek city welcomed all the participating teams in the fruitful season of September, and wish everybody a good time for being in Taekbaek city. AUFF President Byon Seok Hwa also expressed his welcome to the guests and expressed his gratitude to AUSF and Taebaek city for their supports. In his welcome speech, AUSF Secretary General Kenny Chow extended his appreciation to all the teams for their coming and to AUFF, KUSF and KUFF for the wonderful organization of this event as well. He said that young people are the future of the nation and sports are an important vehicle to educate young people with tolerance and understanding.
Representatives from athletes and referees took oath in front of all the audience and promised to take part in the Championship in the true spirit of sportsmanship. After that, AUFF Vice President Jeong Seong Kug declared the opening of the championship. In the end, Mr. Kenny Chow presented AUSF plaque to Taebaek Mayor and AUFF President for their devotion to the Championship.
As the Head of Hong Kong team said, it was delighted to participate in such a high-level football championship for university students. He said that his memory of Asian University Football Championship was still remained in 2009, at which time the 2nd edition of this event was held in Wuhan, China. It was a good memory. He hoped that AUFC could be regularly organized, in which the competition level of all Asian university football could be advanced.
