1st Asian University Women’s Basketball Championship Opened in Chinese Taipei! 06 Sep 2016 | in Basketball

New Taipei, Chinese Taipei – Sep.6th was the first competition day. 3 games were presented and every team made their debut show except Team Korea.

 

Competitions

Thailand vs Macau China

Thailand thumped Macau, China with their steady performance on fast break by 109-54. The most shining star of the game was Thailand No.8 Supira KLUNBUT, who contributed 27 scores. The 177cm tall central moved very swiftly and reacted to her teammates simultaneously. Speaking of her great performance, she attributed to the strict exercise. Macau team also showed their courage and toughness, but as the young girls had less international experience, they were a little bit nervous for the first match. They were determined to adjust to the best and relax for the rest games.

China vs Hong Kong China

The next Match went on between China and Hong Kong China. The Hong Kong team were out of form at the first quarter and lost 16 scores to China teams. In the next three quarters, they tried to play quick attack and keep the ball, but China team left no mercy and won the game by 94:77. All of the Chinese athletes were from Peking University and the average height is over 180cm, all of the 11 girls got the chance to fight in this match and 4 players namely ZHANG Yi, Xiehui, WANG Rong and WANG Jinhui scored more than 10 points respectively.

Chinese Taipei vs Mongolia

Right after the opening ceremony, the host Chinese Taipei versus Mongolia began. This match was totally dominated by the host. The Chinese Taipei team had 67 attempts for 2-point shoot and   while their rival only got 37. For the 3-point shots, Mongolia had 19 tries but only got 3 in, and Chinese Taipei got 9 out of 17 in. Finally, Chinese Taipei won by a tremendous gap at the score of 102:48.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony started at 17:30.  AUSF Secretary General Mr. Kenny CHOW, Assessor and also Delegate to the Championship Mr. Preecha PRAYOONPAT, the Technical Delegate Ms. Si Man LEI, Mr. Shen-Yean LU, Senior Specialist of Sports to Taipei City, Mr. Jia-Yean CHEN, CTUSF Vice President and Mr. Juin CHOU, Counselor of Chinese Taipei Sports Affairs Council, to name just a few, presented at the ceremony. Firstly the Electric-Techno Neon Gods performance enlivened the mood. This kind of show is a subcultural dance performance which combines a traditional local folk dance performance with modern pop music. OC specially invited a group from Chiayi city where this kind of performance was initiated to allow the participants feel the real local culture.

On behalf of the OC and the host CTUSF, Mr. Jia-Yean Chen extended warm welcome to all the participants. This is the first Asian women’s University event held in Chinese Taipei, and he hoped by hosting this event, more and more young women can engage more on sports. Mr. Preecha PRAYOONPAT appreciated for the OC’s wonderful arrangements and CTUSF for their dedication and commitment for Asian University Sports movement. He wished all the participants can learn and communicate with each other and expected to see their excellent performances. Last but not least, Mr. Juin CHOU, declared the grand opening of the 1st Asian University Women’s Basketball Championship.

Four beautiful flag bearers took the AUSF flags and marched steadily. With the high-spirited AUSF anthem playing, the AUSF flags flag was hoisted up the flagpole.

After the oath taken by the athlete and referee representative, the opening ceremony ended successfully.
