1st Asian University Women’s Basketball Championship: Last Day of the Preliminary Round 08 Sep 2016 | in Basketball

New Taipei, Chinese Taipei – On Sep.8th, the preliminaries of 1st Asian University Women’s Basketball Championship came to the end.3 splendid matches were presented.

Korea vs. Macau China

In group B Thailand won Macau China and Korea respectively in the previous 2 days and secured a seat in the semi-final, this match between the rest 2 teams would determine who could get another position in the next round. Therefore, both 2 teams sent their best players and were eager to win. Similar both in speed and physical feature, the game was a seesaw battle at the beginning and came in tie many times.  In the second quarter, Kim Minseon、Lee Rurira and Han Seonyoung of Korean Team contributed many brilliant three-point-shots and helped their team widen the score gap. Finally, Korea conquered Macau by 90-51. Korean captain Kim Minseon contributed 21 points including 4 three-point shots.

  

Hong Kong China vs. Mongolia

Hong Kong team ran like a storm, and Mongolia couldn’t catch up at first. In the second quarter, Mongolia showed the aggressive side and tried to score with all costs. However, in the second half, Mongolia missed too many opportunities to narrow the gap. Finally, Hong Kong China won by 64-51.

Chinese Taipei vs. China

Last but not least, the most exciting match in this round began. The two teams had never tasted failure in the previous 2 days and both showed great will to get No.1 in Group A. The game began in a very intensive mood and the scores rose alternatively in the first quarter and came into tie many times. In the second half, the Chinese Taipei team broke through China’s defense with their high speed and fast attack, bringing a devastating storm on the court that China could barely counterattack. With 8 three-points been successfully shot, Chinese Taipei crashed over China with 106-65, heading to the semi-final with unbeaten record.

After 3-day competition, Chinese Taipei and China from Group A, Thailand and Korea from Group B were qualified for the semi-finals. All teams will have a day off on September 9th, hence, the semi-finals will start on Sep.10th. Let’s look forward to more exciting games in the upcoming days.
