Cyberjaya, Malaysia- Today was the last day of the 3rd Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship. The top 3 teams were decided in both genders through 4 games. Besides, the players also feasted the audiences’ eyes by their 3-point and slam dunk skills.
3rd Place Games:
The women’s 3rd place game between Macau China and Thailand came at first. With the advantage in both height and smooth cooperation, Thailand team started the match with full energy, and apparently Macau China was difficult in coping with the furious attack. The score ended up with 12-14 in favor of Thailand, who grabbed the bronze medal.
The most eye-catching game in the final round was definitely the 3rd place game between Malaysia A and Thailand. The two team had met in the Pool Games, and Thailand had an easy win by 17-11. Therefore, the host Malaysia A were really under great pressure. However, they effectively transferred the pressure into energy and showed great desire to win. The four players cooperated perfectly as if they could read each other’s mind. The No. 7 player Anthony even successfully shot 3 consecutive balls in to the basket with the assistance of his teammates. Thing got changed when No.77 JET got injured and at the same time, Thailand twin brothers began to power up, and soon the scores were even. However, with only 3 available players, Malaysia A showed their unity and strong-will, and played fearlessly. The scores rose alternatively from 16 to 20. Everyone held their breath and could not take the eyes off the court. Finally, Malaysia A made the game winner shot and seized the 3rd place by 21-20. All the audiences stood up and cheered for both teams for their marvelous performances.
Shoot-out Contest and Dunk Contest
Before the final games, the finals for Shoot-out Contest of both genders and Dunk Contest came into stage.
In the shoot-out Contest, the men’s rival fell into two Malaysian players. Finally, Tan Wei Jie from Malaysia B conquered Chang Zifueng by 1 ball. Iao Chaopong from Macau China got the 3rd place. As for the women’s category, Lo Pin from Chinese Taipei, Thidaporn from Thailand and Ko Tsz Ching from Hong Kong China ranked top 3 respectively.
Then the boys started the Dunk Contest. One player from each team tried best to show their skills. However, they focused too much on the slam designs, but seldom got the ball in. Finally. Penkhbaatar from Mongolia slammed in with a giant jump and won the highest score.
Finals
As the top one team in each pool, Chinese Taipei and China finally met in the women’s final. Both teams had never lose a single game in the previous rounds, they certainly aspired the most valuable victory in the last match. At the beginning, it was quire intense and the scores rose alternatively. Then Chinese Taipei controlled the rhythm of the game, their smooth cooperation and steady perimeter shots made China team so hard to get the ball. Finally, Chinese Taipei defeated China by 21-12.
The most expected game was the men’s final between China B and Mongolia. The two teams had encountered in the Pool Games, and China got a difficult win, but the luck fairy seemed to like the Mongolia team more in the final. Zhang Pengxiang of China B made several long shots but did not get one in. Meanwhile, the Mongolians made some beautiful 2-points and widened the score gap. After the time out, China B began to catch up. However, the Mongolians wound not give up the leading position. They led off more attacks and finally secured the victory by 17-13. With this beautiful revenge, Mongolia team crowned the champion!
