Gold Coast, Australia- On Dec. 12th, the excitement and energy of the first day of the FISU-NUSF Seminar returned on day two as delegates participated in sessions on leading teams and putting together an event management plan for future International Day of University Sport events.

Guided by the expertise of Simon Fletcher from Leading Teams Australia, the delegation were encouraged to look at the workings of high performing teams and what factors were critical in ensuring teams worked collaboratively together.

Much discussion was generated throughout the session as individuals explored what leadership skills they possessed and how they could develop teams to successful host events.

“The session was very interesting, very informative. I believe it will be very useful for bringing our teams together,” said Eric Michalak from New Caledonia.

In the spirit of collaboration and exchanging of ideas, FISU Oceania President Martin Doulton along with AUSF President XUE Yanqing, led an animated discussion with the attendance of some of the boards members of AUSF and FISU Oceania during lunch with the objective of ensuring the cooperation between FISU Oceania and AUSF continues.

After lunch, the delegation was invited to commence work on their event management plans for an identified IDUS activity in 2018. Extending on the presentations from Monday’s sessions, countries and regions worked together to formulate plans and identify areas where they could exchange ideas and processes.

“I really enjoyed working with people from different countries and regions today and to hear their ideas and how they are in a way similar to our country but also different,” said Gaberieli Qoro from Fiji.

The afternoon was spent touring some of the venues for the Commonwealth Games including the newly constructed Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre that will host the badminton, para powerlifting, weightlifting and wrestling events at the 2018 Games.  

Delegates enjoyed some free time on the Gold Coast’s Surfers Paradise beach before dinner at the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club – one of many surf lifesaving clubs in Australia where members dedicate their lives to ensuring the safety of all locals and visitors on Australian beaches.
