Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-13th July was the quarter-final day as well as the semi-final day. The tournament began to heat up after16 quarter-final matches in the morning and 4 semi-final matches in the afternoon. Tomorrow, men's champion will be delivered between Civil Aviation University of China and Payam E Noor University(Iran), while women’s between Tianjin University of Finance and Economics(China) and Chinese Culture University (Chinese Taipei).
Civil Aviation University of China vs. Fu Jen Catholic University(Chinese Taipei)
"It is the most attractive match in the quarter-final. Both of the team are quite excellent in tactics and strength. Chinese Taipei team adjusted themselves well", as Technical DelegateKenta Kawashima said. For the first several minutes, Chinese Taipei made several nice shots while the defense of China was a little bit loose. After the timeout, China adjusted their strategy and finally defeated the opponent by 21:18.
Semi-Final(Women's tournament)
Chinese Culture University(Chinese Taipei) vs. Tsinghua University(China)
The 1st semi-final match began with female teams: defending champion Chinese Culture University (Chinese Taipei) vs. Tsinghua University(China). These two teams weresimilar same in physical condition and both quite experienced about 3x3 basketball rules. Chinese Taipei moved fast and took 2 points lead in the first minute while China kept up tight. In the last few minutes, China was too eager to win but failed in shots. In the end, Chinese Taipei stopped the score by 20:19.
Tianjin University of Finance and Economics(China) vs. Dhurakij Pundit University(Thailand)
Tianjin University of Finance and Economics(China) did not win easily against Dhurakij Pundit University(Thailand), though the former was taller but the latter moved fast. The match heated up when Thailand made a long shot of 2 points by entering the last 3 minutes, nearly tying the match by 13:15. However, China suddenly flared up with several nice shots and gave no change to its opponent since then. Finally, China finished the game by 21:13.
Semi-final(Men's tournament)
Civil Aviation University of China vs. Srinakharinwirot University(Thailand)
China has a height advantage over Thailand and followed the strategy of creating inside shots. Thailand's movement were flexible and fast, making several hot shots to catch up.Finally, the score stopped at 19: 16 with the win-out of Civil Aviation University of China.
Payam E Noor University (Iran) vs. Citi University (Mongolia)
It was the last match of the day, but an eye-catching one since its start. Both teams were tall, strong and aggressive. The defensive from two sides were tight and no one made a successful score within the first one minute. After Mongolia made the first 2-point score, Iran instantly made 2 slam dunks for revenge. Every successful attack and defense ignited the passion of audience. The screaming and shouting never stopped during the whole match. Iran ever took the lead until the 5 minutes, when Mongolia began to catch up, tying the score and taking the leading, which gave Iran team under great pressure. Until the last 2 minutes, Iran caught up again and tied the match at 13:13. Both sides successfully blocked each other's shots. When the match went to 44’’, Iran team got a chance to shoot and score one ball. Although Mongolia team tried their best to fight back, the match was decided, 14:13, with Iran team leading.
Shootout
The qualification of shoot-out contest was also staged in the afternoon. Finally, #7 Tan Kim Yeow from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, #9 Meng Xiang from Huaqiao University, #10 Qi Xuexuan from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (China) and #4 Ko Tsz Ching from the Chinese University of Hong Kong won out. It is a mixed contest. The top 2 of each gender will run for the champion tomorrow.
