KELME 2018 AUSF Football Cup: 9th Competition Day 07 Nov 2018 | in Football

Jinjiang, China- On Nov. 7th night, two teams which have been having a successful tournament so far met at Quanzhou College of Technology for the semi-final for the women’s competition.

In the first half, the College of Asian Scholars (CAS) from Thailand played very tactical game at the beginning and eventually their player No. 7, SilawanInamee, scored in the 16thminute from a free kick just 16 yards from goal. Following that, Beijing Normal University (BNU) from China began to launch strong counter attacks and created a few opportunities that resulted in a penalty in the 32nd minute which Duan Xingyan converted to even the score at 1-1 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the players from BNU seemed to be tiring, failing to contain the fast breaks of the CAS players who kept most of the possession, and could easily pass the ball around to their players. In the 71st minute, player CAS’ No. 13, Orapin Waenngoen, swept the ball into the goal after receiving a cross from the right, making the final score 2-1 to CAS. In the last 20 minutes, CAS had full control of the match despite a strong comeback effort from BNU.

The Head of Delegation of CAS, Mr. Chanawongse said the after match that they respected the BNU team and did a careful research on them and that helped them to adopt the right strategy, i.e. to play defense in the first half and offense in the second half. The strategy paid off and they were rewarded with a place in the final to face Donghua University (DHU) – the same opponent they met with during the group stage of the tournament.

In the other evening match, Donghua University (DHU) of China defeated Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore by 5-0 in the stadium of Guanzhou Institute of Technology. NTU put up a strong defense at the start and that made it difficult for DHU to penetrate with their attacks. However, in the end, DHU broke the deadlock by attacking from the flanks and floating balls into the goal area. This resulted in a first goal in the 31st minute from player No 5 Chen Shuyue and there was no looking back for DHU from then on.

DHU will meet CAS in women's final on Nov. 9th in the stadium of Jinjiang Sports Center.
