Jinjiang, China- Kelme 2018 AUSF Football Cup men’s final was held in Jinjiang Sports Center Stadium on the evening of Nov. 10 when Bangkok Thonburi University (BTU) from Thailand faced Myongji University (MJU) from Korea. In 90 high-octane minutes the two teams played 2-2, and BTU defeated MJU 6-5 in penalty kicks and crowned champion of 2018 AUSF Football Cup.
BTU and MJU booked the final place by defeating Beijing Institute of Technology and Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the semi-finals respectively. The score was 1 to 1 in the first half. MJU outscored BTU at the second half, until BTU’s goalkeeper Somporn Yos reduced the deficit by a head goal at the very last minute and brought the game into penalty kicks. MJU was knock out 5-6 in the penalty kicks. BTU’s players celebrated wildly on the pitch.
The two teams served up an adrenaline-fuelled performance for a 17,000-capacity crowd in Jinjiang. KELME 2018 AUSF Football Cup kicked off on Oct. 30. Sixteen men's teams and seven women's teams representing universities from Asian countries and regions gathered for the event. Bangkok Thonburi University ranked first in men’s category while College of Asian Scholars from Thiland won the champion in women’s category.
