The Rising Shuttlers of Asia 21 Sep 2019 | in Championships

New Taipei, Chinese Taipei –"The heroes of the future generation." There are many future stars of Asia gathered at the 1st AUC Badminton, and they may very well be representing their national teams in the near future.

•The new hope of Men's Single for TPE -  Chun-Yi Lin

With a slender physique but calm and steady personality on the court, it is hard to imagine Chun-Yi Lin is only 19-year-old. He put up a fantastic performance this July which helped him to win the US Open.  It's important to note that it was his maiden attempt to compete in the BWF World Tour Super 300 series at the US Open.

With the US Open win, he is steadily making his way to the top 50 in the world. Currently he ranked No.82 in BWF men's singles and will certainly have a bright future with his left-handed strokes, smashing accuracy, and aggressive attack play.

Lin stood on the podium of WUC Badminton last year with the silver medal. Due to the excellent condition recently, he was seeded first in the men's singles for this inaugural Asian University Badminton Championship.

Unfortunately, Lin was defeated by Junyan Ng from Malaysia with 19-21 19-21 in the semi-final and finished joint third. Lin said: "I will put more efforts to make the necessary adjustment to my play for the upcoming challenges."

•Singapore's shining shuttler: Grace Hui Zhen Chua

The future Star of Singapore - Grace Hui Zhen Chua, who was the bronze medalist at the 2018 WUC Badminton in women's singles, is currently ranked No.127 in BWF.

Chua entered the Singapore national team in 2015. Immediately after that she took part in the Southeast Asian Games which was hosted by Singapore. Playing in front of a home crowd was particularly meaningful to her, "There were many friends and relatives who came and cheered for me….. all my efforts were worth it," said Grace.

Despite being the women’s singles top seed for the championship because of her ranking points, she was defeated by Mayu Sogo (JPN) in the quarter-final 14-21 10-21. Although Grace did not get a medal this time, she will keep working hard on her game.

These two young players will have many other chances and platforms to compete and improve in their professional badminton career in the future. Let us keep an eye on their progress.
