AUSF Held the first EC Meeting via ZOOM to Cope with the Challenges for 2021 Events 20 Jan 2021 | in Executive Committee Meeting

On 20, January, at the beginning of the New Year, the first AUSF Executive Committee meeting has been successfully held via ZOOM call, bringing together board members to assess the current pandemic situation and make timely decisions for 2021 AUSF projects. This meeting comes when the whole world is seeing an ever increasing number of COVID-19 cases, keeping causing the unexpected challenges and uncertainty to Asian university sports. 

During the meeting, reports of the President, the Secretary General and sub-committees were well received, through which previous work in the last quarter were well reviewed and updated. Thanks to the concerted efforts and seamless cooperation among the three parties of Asian University Sports Federation, the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the National University Sports Federation of Iran, the 2020 Asian University Chess Championship were held successfully from 14th to 29th December 2020, drawing a perfect conclusion for AUSF. “The success of this first ever virtual event in real sense is actually a milestone for the development of AUSF history, the cooperation with ACF should be continued to provide more sport platforms for Asian Youth”, said Mr. XUE Yanqing”, President of AUSF.

After routine reports came the main task of the meeting, AUSF Events in 2021 were assessed carefully in accordance with the Organizing Committee’s progress reports and COVID-19 situation. The scheduled AUC-3x3 Basketball to be held in April 2021 has to be moved to 2022 in Chinese Taipei, following the FISU’s decision of cancelling the UWC- 3x3 Basketball in Xiamen China due to deteriorating pandemic situation across the world. In principle, 2021 Asian University Football Cup scheduled to be held on 18-29, May, has to be postponed to November in Jinjiang China as well, but the final date will be confirmed at the end of March and early April 2021. The Inaugural Asian University Rugby 7s Championship is scheduled to be held from 10-15 October 2021, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; but the final date will be confirmed by April 2021 according to the evolvement of the pandemic.

Ideally, the Asian University Badminton Championship will be staged during 15-19 September 2021, if the pandemic situation allows. If not, the event will be postponed to November 2021, in Chinese Taipei. The Asian University Cheerleading Championship is planned to be held from 28-30 October 2021 in Seoul, Korea for now.

Moreover, there is no change for the next General Assembly and FISU-NUSFs Strategic Dialogue, which will be held in conjunction with 2021 Asian University Badminton Championship in September, Chinese Taipei.

In any case, the safety and health of all the participants involved are always put at the first place for AUSF in its decision-making. To this end, it is highlighted during the meeting, all OCs of AUSF events 2021 are expected to submit a comprehensive and feasible plan in response to the evolving pandemic situation before the end of February for deliberation at the next SC meeting.

To keep track of the COVID-19 situation, it is decided that AUSF Steering Committee meeting will be held online on 25 February 2021 and Executive Committee meeting be held on 21 April 2021.
