Steering Committee members met online to assess the COVID-19 Prevention Plan of 2021 AUSF events 25 Feb 2021 | in

On 25, February, 2021, AUSF Steering Committee members met virtually to deliberate the comprehensive COVID-19 pandemic prevention plans presented by organization committees of 2021 AUSF events in order to ensure a safe delivery of the events.

                                   

Secretary General, Mr. Kenny CHOW first updated the current situation of member federations to all delegates based on the survey conducted by the Secretariat recently, where 20 member federations gave their feedbacks to the questionnaires. “Generally speaking, it is still very challenging for most of the members to participate in the international university sports activities due to the spread of virus and strict border control policy, only 10 out of 20 responded members allow international travel but with strict conditions”, said Mr. CHOW.

Following the update of the member federations status, Ms. Hannah WANG from Chinese Taipei organizing committee of 2021 Asian University Badminton Championship, General Assembly and FISU-AUSF Strategic Dialogue, introduced that travelers for international sports purpose are still not allowed to enter Chinese Taipei for the time being, but they’ve had entry policy, quarantines details and event protocols in place, expecting to help all delegations get prepared for participation when the international events are allowed to reopen.

Ms. Zihua CHEN from Jinjiang organizing committee of 2021 AUSF Football Cup, reiterated that final decision on the date of the tournament has to be made until late March and early April, when the new regulation on games staging released by General Administration of Sport of China. It is also underlined that their efforts and commitment in drafting the comprehensive precaution measures, including closed-loop management throughout the event, nucleic acid testing for all, full verification access, comprehensive environment disinfection, and whole process traceability etc..

It is regrettable that organizing committee of the Inaugural Asian University Rugby 7s Championship said they would postpone this event to the first season of 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns in Malaysia.

“The pandemic situation is changing every week, AUSF hopes, together with OCs and all stakeholders concerned, to keep track of the situation and work out an optimal solution for each event before the next Executive Committee meeting to be held on 6 May, 2021”,concluded Mr. Yanqing XUE, president of AUSF.
