Sports Talk Webinar series on university sport strategies and development in Asia 08 Apr 2021 | in Sub-Regional

The ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC) Sports Talk Webinars were held every month since March 2021 and followed by the successful webinar on 1st April on University Sport Strategies and Development in Asia, with the AUSC delivering another round of online presentations and discussions from the sports leaders of Asian university sport community. It is aiming to share the planning and initiatives that the Asia and ASEAN University Sports stakeholders can implement at respective continental and regional sport federations.

60 participants from Asian countries and regions attended the on-line seminar, include viewers from the People’s Republic of China, Oman, Palestine, Malaysia, Lebanon, Singapore, Philippines, Mongolia and Hong Kong China.

Moderated by AUSC Secretary General, Mr. Roestam Effendi Sijar, the webinar featured speeches by Dr. XUE Yanqing, the AUSF President, Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd Jailani, the AUSC President and Mr. Phouvong Phimmakong, the LUSF Deputy Secretary General, who shared their knowledge and experiences and even outlined the actions that can be taken by all NUSFs.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Pekan Ramli, Senior Principal Assistant Secretary, Sports Section, Planning & Policy Research Division, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. The AUSC Strategic Planning Road Map 2021 – 2027 will be a comprehensive planning and needs more effort, hard work and support from all stakeholders.

The series of webinars are intended to make the strategic planning to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which was introduced by the United Nations in 2015, and how the National University Sports Federations (NUSF) can play vital roles in achieving some key results. The UN resolution recognized, physical and recreational activities – when used them right – have a big part to play in reaching development objectives, ranging from the contribution to good health and wellbeing, leading to a better education and even promoting inclusiveness, peace and justice. The third webinar will be held in May.
