Javanbakht Stood Out, Iran to Pull Away in Men’s Category 11 Sep 2021 | in Chess

Following the end of ladies’ games, the men’s category of 2021 Asian University Chess Championship (AUCC) kicked off on September 10th. On Day 2, IM Nima Javanbakht of Singapore remained 1st place while Iran to top the team competition.

Up to 50 players from 13 member federations registered for the AUCC 2021 men’s category. Except for Mongolia, the host Indonesia, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates sent their full rosters to compete in the team event.

IM Nima Javanbakht (SIN) is definitely a power force in the previous six rounds, continued leading the individual standings by better tie break score. Liu Chang(Sd) (CHN) and GM Seyed Khalil Mousavi (IRI) both tied with 5.0 points. The top 14 players were all in the competitive run within merely 0.5 to 1 point.

As for the group rankings calculated by the total score of team members, the Iranians showed their ambition to defend the title and kept ahead with 17 points, followed by India and China by 1.5 points.

To be mentioned, WIM Ummi Fisabilillah, AUCC player as well as the 9th-placer in women’s category, was invited as the narrator during the broadcast of mens category. Three rounds left to decide the winners, the final day is scheduled to start on 10am (GMT+4) on Tornelo application tomorrow.
