The 11th AUSF General Assembly was held online successfully 26 Nov 2021 | in General Assembly

A total of 53 delegates from 27 countries or regions met on ZOOM for the 11th AUSF General Assembly, the first ever online Assembly in AUSF history. This historic meeting was witnessed by FISU Acting President Leonz Eder, FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrod, presidents of other continental federations, Secretary General of ASEAN University Sports Council, Presidents of Asian Chess Federation and Wushu Federation of Asia, and AUSF Honorary President ZHANG Xinsheng, who came to convey their best regards and support to the whole AUSF family.

 

The meeting deliberated the reports of the President, Secretary General, Treasurer & internal Auditors, Sub-committees as tabled in the Agenda. President XUE appreciated the efforts made by the whole AUSF family to sustain the Asian university sports movement and professionalism and resilience of the EC members demonstrated in response to the pandemic challenges, and generous supports from FISU and other partners.

Over the past 3 years, AUSF made remarkable achievements in terms of building brand-name events, facilitating the knowledge transfer and capacity building, developing strategic relationship with regional and continental federations, Asian Sports Federations, and updating AUSF documents in a hope to strive for good governance.

 

Responding to the changing situation, the amendment to the Regulation for the Asian University Championship has been approved, which features some changes in terms of the definition of the university teams, fees of charge regarding items of sanction fees, participation fees and etc.

During the General Assembly, Organization Committees of 2022 AUSF events delivered progress reports, expressing the commitments to prepare for the AUSF Football Cup in Jinjiang, China, 3x3 basketball, Men’s Basketball, Archery Championship in Chinese Taipei, Rugby 7s in Malaysia. While the uncertainties brought by the Pandemic still exist, the Organizing Committee together with the Secretariat will keep a close eye on the pandemic situation, in the hope to realize safe and successful events.

With 16 days away from the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade, Mr. Urs Hunkeler, the Managing Director, from Organizing Committee was invited together with Mr. HAN Yi, Vice President and Operation Supervisor of Chengdu 2021 World University Games Executive Committee to update the recent progress they’ve made in both of two multi-sport events, and expressed their warmly invitations to all Asian university sports federations to join the games. All the delegates in attendance were much impressed by their dedication and determination.

The pandemic has shaped the world largely, we need to get used to the new normal situation, accepting offline, online or hybrid ways of working. In the years to come, we will stick to the established strategic goals, continuing to build more brand-name events to increase the participation, develop more programs engaging deep interaction among Asian youth in order to cultivate young sports talents and build their sense of responsibility to communities, interact with our member federations more, and deepen cooperation with Asian sports federations and other strategic partners in a hope to commit ourselves to building a university community with shared future. Only through the solidarity of the whole international sports community can we overcome the challenges lying ahead. Next year, AUSF will mark 30 years anniversary, it is hoped that members will be untied to celebrate it with different forms and write a new blueprint for the future of AUSF, concluded President XUE.
