AUSF concluded its 12th General Assembly Session One via Zoom 21 Dec 2022 | in General Assembly

On December 20th, 2022, 52 delegates of 28 countries and regions gathered via ZOOM for the 12th AUSF General Assembly Session One. This Session is featured with the attendance of Leonz Eder, FISU Acting President, Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary General & CEO, Adam Roczek, EUSA President, Nomsa Mahlangu, FASU President, America Alvarado, Secretary General of FISU-America, David Schmude, President of FISU-Oceania; Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, President of ASEAN University Sports Council; Fok Chun Wan Ian, President of Wushu Federation of Asia, Casto Abundo, Executive Director of Asian Chess Federation, and FISU Emeritus Honorary Member & AUSF Honorary President ZHANG Xinsheng etc. who all came to voice their support and congratulation to AUSF on the opening of the meeting. Vice President of Federation of University Sport of China (FUSC), Dr. LIU Lixin also addressed the meeting with warm welcome as a host, and pledged continued support to AUSF and Asian university sports movement when he took office as head of FUSC.

This meeting comes with the fact that the scheduled onsite meeting is still not possible due to the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic. With the reference to the advice of the Legal Committee, endorsement by the member federations, Executive Committee of AUSF decided to split this meeting into two sessions, Session one will be receiving the working reports in an online format, while Session two will focus on the election of the new board in a face-to-face manner.

Session One was opened by President XUE warm welcome address and appreciation to all the hosts, members, participants and other stakeholders for their understanding in the postponement of cancellation of all the onsite events 2022. In his working report that followed. President XUE underlined throughout the past year, Executive Committee has been making its utmost efforts to adopt flexible competition format to sustain the Asian university sports movement based on experience learnt in the last two years; and take practical measures to  reinforce and build ties with our partners, as continued efforts to open up more development opportunities for AUSF.

Mr. Kenny CHOW, in his Secretary General report, highlighted the efforts made by the EC members to follow up with initiatives of 30th anniversary of AUSF, in terms of the dedicated Logo design and production, completing a book titled “30 Years Asian University Sports Movement”, diversified IDUS celebrating activities; as well as the ongoing Asia-Oceania University Chess Championship, as one of the fruits yielded from the MOU between AUSF and FISU-Oceania.

Upon discussion, the mandate of AUSF Executive Committee is approved unanimously to extend to the time when the next onsite Electoral General Assembly is held. “With members endorsement, it will be legitimate for the incumbent AUSF EC perform its duties till next Electoral General Assembly, which will ensure proper functioning and stability of the Federation”, said by President XUE.

With 22 days away from the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games Winter, Ashley Milne, Head of Delegation Services, from Organizing Committee came to join the meeting together with Ms. XIONG Yan, Deputy Secretary General of Chengdu 2021 FISU WUG Executive Committee and their teams to update the recent progress they’ve made in both of two multi-sport events, and expressed their warmly welcome to all Asian university sports federations to join the two games.
