As the 2024 Asian University Wushu Championship continues in the second competition day, nine gold medals were awarded in the Taolu competitions; three gold medals in the Sanda competition. In the Taolu competition, China won 2 medals, Macau China 2; Japan, Republic Korea, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Chinese Taipei, each pocketed 1 gold medal.

The Oath-taker at the Opening Ceremony, Basma Lachkar from Brunei Darussalam won the gold medal in Women’s Taijijian. “Basma was a silver medalist in 2021 Chengdu World University Games as well as Hangzhou Asian Games, she started learning Taiji at the age of 13, has been training very hard since then, it is no surprise for me that she is crowned in this event”, said by her Chinese Coach, Ms. ZHAO Chunjie. “I am very happy to be recommended by the Organizing Committee to take the oath as an athlete representative. Also, I enjoyed the Opening Ceremony as it was thoughtfully planned and full of creativity. The competition was well organized. I enjoyed this opportunity and wish to join this Championship again in future”, added Basma Lachkar.

In Sanda competition, China won all of the 3 gold medals. In Men’s 56KG Final, the Chinese Athlete WANG Liaoliao overcame his opponent, KU HIO LAM from Macau China. “He originally entered in the Men’s 52 KG, but have to compete with the athletes in the Weight Category of 56 KG, due to the lack of entry in the Men’s 52 KG. In spite of the disadvantage of the weight and height, he launched a counterattack in the last 10 seconds following the instruction of the coach, which helped him to win with narrow margin. I am very proud of his performance on the area today”, praised by the his coach, Zheng Lei.
