Harbin, China - The Inaugural Asian University Wushu Championship comes to Harbin, China from 19-22 June, gathering 87 athletes and 22 officials from 12 Asian countries and regions competing in Taolu and Sanda.
The Opening Ceremony took place in the evening at Harbin Grand Theatre, the landmark building in Harbin. AUSF Executive Committee member and CISCA Chair of the Championship Purna Singh BOHARA, President of the Wushu Federation of Asia CHAN Weng Kit, Secretary General of the International Wushu Federation ZHANG Qiuping, EC member of the International Wushu Federation and President of the ASEAN Martial Arts Federation CHONG Kim Fatt, OC President QIAN Fuyong, Vice Director General of Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Bureau Dong Xiaodong were present at the Opening Ceremony. Mr. Dong Cheng, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province presided over the Opening Ceremony.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, Mr. Dong Xiaodong welcomed all friends from home and abroad. He promised that with the rich experience of Harbin in organising the international Championships, the OC will provide the best and most effective and considerate service to all the delegations. On behalf of the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), President CHAN Weng Kit thanked all the delegations for their great efforts in promoting the events of Wushu.
Mr. Purna Singh BOHARA congratulated on the grand opening and expressed his appreciation to Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), China Student Sports Federation (CSSF), Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Bureau, Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, and all who have cared and dedicated for the delivery of this fantastic event. He hoped that through this AUSF Championship, the Wushu spirit of unity and harmony could be further promoted among the Asian youth.
OC President QIAN Fuyong declared the opening of the 2024 Asian University Wushu Championship. Then representatives from athletes and referees took oath in front of all the audience and promised to take part in the Championship in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The Opening Ceremony ended after the fruitful cultural performances. The audience enjoyed a feast of traditional Chinese drum and Wushu performance, as well as the international dancing.
The athletes competed for the 9 medals in Taolu and 2 medals in Sanda today. At last, athletes from China won 8 out of 11 titles, while Hong Kong China, Singapore and Indonesia shared the other three gold medals. The awarding ceremony was organised after the conclusion of each half day’s competition.
In addition, this Championship was also featured with the demonstration of Wushu Long Weapon and Short Weapon. The athletes were attracted by the performance though it was not an official event of this Championship.
