Dear friends,
On the occasion of farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, on behalf of the Executive Committee of Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF), we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone - our member Federations, Regional University Sports Federations, Asian Sports Federations, Continental University Sports federations, FISU and our partners - who have been with us on this journey and provided us with invaluable support to ensure another remarkable year for our shared undertakings.
In 2025, AUSF will continue to provide sports and educational opportunities for Asian youth and AUSF members by hosting the 7th Asian University 3x3 Basketball in May in Zhoushan, China, 13th AUSF General Assembly & 4th FISU-AUSF Strategic Dialogue in November or December in Macau, China. In addition, in cooperation with the Realeague Limited, the Asian University Basketball League 2025-26 season will also be organised. Some other events are still in the planning stage, and we will update everyone accordingly. We look forward to your participation in these events.
Looking back, led by its new board, 2024 has seen AUSF made extraordinary efforts toward improving the governance of the organization, organising sports events, and strengthening its collaborations with partners. Through two Executive Committee meetings in Zhoushan and Macau, China, AUSF successfully restructured its Commissions and nominated five Regional Representatives to optimize the internal structure of the organization. Moreover, huge efforts were made throughout the year by the Executive Committee members and external experts to formulate the Strategic Plan for AUSF's future development. Members to the various newly formed Commissions are in the process of being appointed.
2024 also featured the full resumption of onsite sports events, providing platforms for university students across Asia to engage in sports competition and interaction. With the support of all the member federations, we are proud to see five major events were successfully delivered this year: the 6th Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship, the 2nd AUSF Football Cup, the 1st Asian University Wushu Championship, the 7th Asian University Men’s Basketball Championship, and the 2nd Asian University Archery Championship. These events brought together hundreds of university students from across Asia, allowing them to compete for glory and enrich their university sports experience.
Apart from the competitions, participants also took part in the cultural programs that were held during the various sports events. The specialized topics of each cultural program helped them better understand the local history and local people, and enrich their experiences on the sidelines of the championships. AUSF Championships are not only a pathway to promote sports excellence, but also a platform to enhance learning, sharing and communication, which potentially will serve as a beacon of hope for bridging the cultural differences and promoting peace.
It was also encouraging to see closer ties being strengthened between AUSF, FISU, continental university federations and regional university federations, through regular exchanges and visits this year. These collaborations not only enhanced engagement among the federations but also strengthened the friendships between the affiliated member federations.
Additionally, AUSF explored potential cooperation with other sports federations and partners, including the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), Asian Chess Federation and Realeague Limited. This October, AUSF and WFA officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Macau, China, marking a significant step forward in advancing and promoting the development of Wushu within the Asian university sports community. In November, AUSF and Realeague Limited entered into a strategic partnership to provide a greater platform for student-athletes to showcase their abilities and to spotlight the elite university basketball programs in Asia. We look forward to exploring more opportunities with other partners in the coming 2025.
We are fully aware that all of above achievements would not be possible without the collective efforts of everyone. As we wind down 2024, it is our honor and pleasure, on the occasion of the festive season, to wish you and your loved ones a prosperous 2025, and look forward to seeing you soon in person.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. LIU Lixin Mr. SEETOW Cheng Fave
