Zhoushan, China - The 7th Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship kicked off on the evening of May 23 in Putuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, with the first day of competition officially underway. Dr. Liu Lixin, President of the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF), President and Secretary General of the China Student Sports Federation (CSSF), attended the opening ceremony. Mr. LOU Kit Long, AUSF Regional Representative and CISCA Chair, delivered a speech on behalf of AUSF. The OC President Mr. Sun Zhilong delivered a welcome address, while An Hailong, OC Vice President, presided over the ceremony.
This year's championship has attracted 27 university teams from 12 countries and regions across Asia, including 17 men's teams and 10 women's teams. The winners of the men’s and women’s categories will automatically qualify for the 2025 FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball Finals.
On behalf of the Putuo Organising Committee, Mr. Sun Zhilong extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests who had traveled from afar, expressed sincere greetings to all athletes, coaches, and referees, and offered heartfelt thanks to the staff involved in organizing the event. He emphasized that this championship is not only a competition of skill but also a bond of unity and friendship.
On behalf of AUSF, Mr. LOU Kit Long said, "For the past 30 years, the Asian University Sports Federation has been striving to fulfill its responsibility of promoting cooperation in Asia and the world. Basketball is one of the most beloved sports globally, and we sincerely hope that during this championship, the university athletes will not only showcase their best performance and make new friends but also have the opportunity to explore this beautiful city and immerse themselves in the local culture."
Dr. Liu Lixin declared the 7th Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship officially open. The AUSF flag was brought into the venue, and all attendees stood as the flag was raised and the anthem played. Representatives of the athletes and referees then took their oaths.
The opening ceremony also featured captivating cultural performances, including magic shows and martial arts displays, which highlighted local traditions and ignited the enthusiasm of the audience, earning rounds of applause.
On the same day, the group matches commenced with top Asian university teams taking the court and giving their all.
In a highlight match following the opening ceremony, Tsinghua University (CHN) Men’s team faced Tribhuwan University (NEP). At the start, Tribhuwan University players showed aggressive defense and seamless teamwork, briefly taking the lead in the opening minutes. However, Tsinghua University remained composed, leveraging their height advantage to launch a fierce counterattack under the basket, successfully overturning the score and securing a "winning start."
Later, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (CHN) women's team also demonstrated their formidable strength, easily defeating Royal International University (MGL).
In the morning matches, Guangdong University of Technology (CHN) men’s team, the defending Champion, faced strong challenges from the University of Moratuwa (SRI) and the National University of Singapore (SGP). After a slow start, they took full control of the game, relying on their overwhelming offensive and defensive prowess to secure consecutive victories by a wide margin.
